The importance of learning while playing at Eastmark high school

It can be ensured that the fundamental activity of the child is the game; it is essential for proper development, so the child must have enough time and space for it according to their age and play needs.

In the game, the child involves all of her/his being (feelings, thoughts...), her/his practice serves to demonstrate and affirm her/his personality. He/she is totally absorbed in what for him/her is a serious activity.

Psychologically, it is considered that on some occasions it has a cathartic function, since it can serve to release tension. Situations of everyday life are reproduced in the game, some of which may cause conflicts; then the child transfers them to his/her playful terrain and reaches the outcome that he/she would like in reality. The same type of game is different in each child, since it is not only determined by external conditions, but also by individual characteristics, which give it a particular stamp.

The game allows three basic functions of psychic maturation:

  • The assimilation

  • Comprehension.

  • Acceptance of external reality.

And favors:

  • Early sociability.

  • Social communication skills (assertiveness).

Education is continuously changing and we must adapt to new demands following a more effective learning from a pedagogical style. That is why we claim the game as a new educational methodology to help improve the areas or difficulties of each child.

From a pedagogical point of view, it is very important to consider the game as a learning methodology, since, in this way, we will achieve a large number of objectives and at the same time capture and maintain the attention of the little ones.

Educational games bring us a lot of benefits and allow us to work across academic content. In the game we find a means for learning, being able to initiate and exercise many faculties, facilitating knowledge of the environment and social relations.

The game as an educational medium is a very significant element, because:

  • Enriches the imagination; It is known, and pedagogues are very clear about it, that the game contributes a lot to the creative process.

  • Develops observation, exercises attention, concentration and memory

  • Development, imagination, observation, progress in attention and memory are factors that will later be transferred to non-play situations, which enrich the child's mind and prepare him/her for academic life.

It is this new methodology, which has shown us over the years the great progress and positive results in all students.

  1. The game allows us to accept and learn from our mistakes: Through the game, students can learn and fail in a totally safe environment. Namely, win and lose. They will be aware that behind every mistake there are mountains of learning. Effort and tolerance of frustration will be worked on positively.

  2. Assimilation of theoretical concepts: Children are tired of learning through books or theoretical materials. From time to time, we can use specific games adapted to the theoretical content of the school. In this way, through the game, the child will internalize the most theoretical contents in a more lasting and fun way.

  3. Cognitive development: Through this methodology, areas such as sustained attention, short- and long-term memory, imagination, logical thinking and, above all, creativity will be stimulated.

  4. Teaches to think: Many times we forget the most important thing. Children are tired of memorizing, internalizing and studying. From the game, we can teach them to think, to go much further and to promote critical thinking.

  5. Affective development: Through the game a large number of social skills and conflict resolution among their peers are developed. Increases responsibility, teamwork and the spirit of improvement.
